Will China adopt EME-related standards consistent with international standards?
It is in the interest of China to adopt EME-related standards that are consistent with international standards. China is currently reviewing the EME-related standards in an inter-ministerial work group chaired by the National Institute of Metrology. In October 2001, this group issued a draft report for public comment that goes far beyond accepted international norms and is a major concern to industry. While acknowledging the progressive stance of issuing a draft report and seeking public comments, both domestic and international industry groups have taken similar positions in opposing the draft standard. Many believes the Chinese government should accept the industry position and adopt a single harmonized EME standard based on internationally accepted EME safety specifications.
