What are the requirements for a registered design?

In order for a design to be registerable, it must be new. It can not assist in the function of the product. It must be designed with the goal of aesthetically pleasing people. It can not be printed matter. There are also some restricted items that can not have a registered design, such as computer programs, computer chip layouts, circuit boards and some sculptures.
