I have noticed that many property agents in Shanghai offer a free service. Is the service really free or am I likely to encounter hidden costs?
It is very common in Shanghai for licensed property agents to offer a free service. This is quite normal and therefore should be completely free. Normally, licensed agencies establish agreements with landlords that they will work on commission from the landlord for showing the properties. Pay attention to 'agents' who charge a fee to clients on signing a lease, as they are more than likely 'double dipping' to increase their commissions.
