What can I reasonably expect to pay for a property in Shanghai?
Whilst it is difficult to state how much a property will cost in Shanghai, as prices vary considerably, and outline is as follows: a high rise downtown apartment, may be in the region of RMB 8000-RMB 10000 per sqm, whilst in the residential areas of Pudong and Hongqiao, an apartment could be as low as RMB400-RMB6000 per sqm. Garden villas are usually between RMB 8000-11000 per sqm in residential suburbs and RMB16000 per sqm downtown. Generally apartments that are higher rise sell for more, as they are further from the noise and pollution.
